Should I Take Advanced Placement Courses?

If you are going to be entering your senior year of high school next year (or if you have a child who is going to be entering their senior year of high school), you might be wondering if there are any significant benefits of taking Advanced Placement courses. After all – grades will be an important part of a college admissions package, and even though Advanced Placement courses will impart more knowledge, they will also be more difficult, and can drop grades; and of course, this begs the question, “Are Advanced Placement courses worth it?”

When it comes to answering the question of how “worth it” Advanced Placement courses are, it is important to realize the way in which colleges view admissions packets; while grades are certainly an important part of an admissions packet, they are not the most important part!

The Study Skills Boot Camp!

As high schools all around the country have different standards when it comes to education at their school, it is difficult for colleges to put a lot of weight on a student’s grades, as grades will mean different things from school to school. This has meant that it has become necessary for colleges to find other areas to place importance upon; one area most colleges use is standardized tests (the SAT and the ACT), and the other area they use is the “extras” in a student’s admissions packet. Of course, such extracurricular activities as National Honor Society, leadership-related seminars and clubs, and participation in community service are all among these “extras,” but another big part of these “extras” is the effort a student displays toward gaining as much knowledge as they can through extra school work and difficult courses.

Incredible Speed Study Techniques!

This means that any drop in your grades as a result of an Advanced Placement course will not overshadow the positives that come from having taken that Advanced Placement course; what’s more, if the Advanced Placement courses in question properly prepare their students for the Advanced Placement test at the end of the year, these students will be able to pass the test, and will therefore be able to skip these classes in college! When you add all this information together, you can see that Advanced Placement courses are a huge advantage for high school seniors!

Keeping Bugs Out Of Your Yard

There are few things that are more annoying during the summer than sitting in your backyard on a pleasant afternoon and being unable to enjoy it because of all the bugs swarming around you! The problem, of course, is that bugs seem to be a staple of the summer, and it can often seem like it is impossible to get rid of them, no matter what you do or what measures you try to take!

One of the main reasons people feel that they are unable to get rid of bugs is because they try to do so by spraying pesticides, but while these poisons will keep away bugs for a time, they will also keep away the birds and bats (and other bugs) that eat bugs, so as soon as this pesticide wears off, the bugs will return, and you will soon be overrun!

Generally speaking, the animals that eat bugs are creatures of habit (meaning that once they have marked your yard as a “no go” area, they will not soon come back), whereas bugs are creatures of opportunity (meaning that they will come back to your yard as soon as they can!). Because of this, the best way to keep bugs out of your yard is actually to make sure you are keeping helpful critters in your yard – and if you spray chemicals to kill bugs, you will not be able to do this!

With a bit of research, you will find that there are a number of plants that are natural deterrents to bugs, and once you find the plants that will work for the part of the country in which you live, you can plant these plants to keep bugs away. And what’s more, these plants will give birds and other helpful creatures a natural, comfortable place to hang out – and in this way, you can clear up your bug problem altogether!

Learning How To Ski Again

If you live in a “ski area,” and you are a fan of skiing, there is a good chance you ski often enough that you never really lose the feel for it, but if you are not especially a fan of skiing and therefore only go every once in a while, or if you live too far away from a ski resort to go as often as you would like, it can sometimes be difficult to get started with skiing on those days when you actually go, which can put you in a position where you use the majority of the day simply trying to figure out how to ski!

If you haven’t skiied in a while, you will want to start out by getting comfortable with the skis on your feet while you are still on flat ground; at the base of the mountain, slip into your skis, and move around a bit, practicing (as best as you can) the proper weight distribution from one ski to the other, as this will get you used to the sensation of having skis on your feet.

As you ride the lift to the top of the mountain, watch the trails beneath you, and visualize yourself going down these trails; at first, this may seem like a strange thing to do, but you will find that in the long run this will help you a great deal, as it will get your mind used to the overall action and idea of skiing once again.

And of course, the part about getting started skiing again that is most difficult is actually getting started skiing – that is, going down the mountain with these foreign objects on your feet; rather than zooming down the mountain from the start, allow yourself to feel comfortable going as slowly as you want early on, taking wide, sweeping loops of the mountain, and as you start to feel more and more comfortable, you can point yourself more and more downhill.

Skiing is like riding a bicycle in that it is something that never really leaves you – but it can, however, be something that is difficult to pick back up at first; when you take these steps to relearn how to ski, you will soon find that you are as comfortable as you ever were before, and that skiing is fun once again.

Finding a Sport for Any Kid to Play

Finding a sport for your children to play is often difficult. It is difficult for kids to enjoy a sport if they are not as athletic as their counter parts. Earlier and earlier each year young kids are being introduced to competitive sports. Kids want to play sports that they don’t have to take so seriously and parents are left to find one that fits the bill. This is why many kids are drawn to soccer.

Soccer is a sport that can be very easy for kids to find a place in. Many different assignments that require different skills are afforded by the many positions on the field. Forwards require quickness and balance to be successful and defenseman need to be tough and always in their position. Finding somewhere on the field to play is easier because of this.

Parents also love soccer since it is great at keeping kids in shape. A kid can choose anywhere on the field to play and running will be involved plenty of the time. This cardiovascular activity is a great way for kids to stay fit. As they grow older the exercise habits that your kids develop will stick with them after soccer.

There are also many different levels of soccer that can be played. Kids can join a traveling soccer club if they want to play in a competitive situation. If they just want to run around and have a good time they can join a park district league. They can also just play with their friends if there are enough of them to field a couple of teams.

Many reasons in addition to those above make soccer the most popular sport in the world. Playing only requires a ball which makes the sports popularity even easier to comprehend. Even though it is simple to play, there are many qualities that can be drawn from the game. Success is grounded in great team work and a strong physical presence on the individual level.

Tips For Dealing With A Neighbor Who Does Not Mow Their Lawn

If you live in even a decently-nice neighborhood, it is generally an unwritten rule of the neighborhood that everyone makes sure their lawn looks presentable. After all, the value of houses in a neighborhood is largely dependent upon the way things look, and a shabby, overgrown lawn can make things look poor. And what’s more, if one of your neighbors whose house you are stuck looking at all the time does not mow their lawn, it can be downright annoying! And so the question becomes, what is the best way to handle this in a non-combative and effective manner?

One of the first things for you to make sure you know is this: do the residents of the house own it or rent it? You will find that it is more likely for a rental house to get severely overgrown – but also, it is easier to turn things around with renters! Generally speaking, if you get in touch with the person who owns the house and tell them the renters have been letting the lawn get overgrown, the owner will exert pressure themselves. As this will create a situation where the landlord is telling the renters to mow – instead of a neighbor asking – the problem will be solved much more quickly and effectively.

If, on the other hand, the people who live in the house are the owners, you should take the time to notice what the condition of the rest of their house is like. The solution will often be as simple as just asking them, if they keep the rest of their house in good condition. If, on the other hand, it seems that the homeowners tend to neglect all aspects of their house, you might actually be stuck mowing their lawn yourself! Either that, or (if you hire someone to mow your lawn) pay someone to go over and mow your neighbor’s lawn! Usually, you will find that they start taking better care of their lawn after you have mowed it for them one time!

It is especially important that you keep these tips in mind if you are selling your house; you will have a much easier time selling your own house if all the houses around it look good!

Tips For Setting Up A Saltwater Tank

If you have decided that you want to set up a saltwater aquarium, you may have taken the time to save up the money you needed for the equipment, and may have gone out to purchase everything, only to realize that there is still so much you do not know about setting up an aquarium; if you plan to get started soon with the salt water aquarium, here are a few things you will need to make sure you know for starting out.

Even if you have bought a brand-new fish tank, you should check for leaks before you do anything else; this is a step that a lot of people skip, as they assume there is no way a brand-new fish tank will have leaks, but while it is unlikely that you will deal with leaks in your tank, it is certainly better to catch them before you put in fish than to wait until you already have a full and functional tank to find out that it is leaking.

After you have filled your tank to the brim and let it sit for a couple hours, to make sure no water is leaking out, the next thing that will be important for you to do is clean the tank; in cleaning the tank, you will want to use about a teaspoon of bleach for every 5 gallons of water, and you will want to give everything a thorough scrubbing – and of course, when you finish cleaning, you will want to rinse out the tank thoroughly to get rid of any excess bleach.

Once sand and any plants or rocks that you want to add have been put in the tank, you can start preparing your saltwater and adding it to the tank, along with the filter, the heater, and anything else that will be going into the tank before the fish; of course, at this point, you might think that your tank is all set to go, and many people make the mistake of beginning to add fish at this point. One thing you should understand, however, is that it will be necessary for all the levels to balance out in your tank before it will be safe for fish – and considering how expensive many saltwater fish are, you will certainly not want to risk their health just because you were impatient – so let the tank run for a minimum of 3 days, and if everything still looks good at that point, you will be ready to start adding fish at last!

Eliminate Problems with Office Staplers

In an office people’s nerves can really get frayed due to many different things. For most people the biggest source of this annoyance is a boss, but devices that are used on a daily basis contribute as well. Many are far too familiar with the little hiccups in these devices that can ruin a day. A main issue is with a stapler that won’t cooperate. A stapler that constantly jams up or fails to drive through all the sheets can be supremely annoying. A great idea is to get an automatic stapler since it is able to eliminate these failures with consistency.

Stanley Bostitch is a company that has become one of the top names in tool manufacturing. Hardware supply stores from around the country feature Stanley products more than others. It is no surprise that Stanley makes a stapler for office use when you consider that they make some of the best heavy duty staplers on the market. Their Full Strip 20 Sheet Capacity Stapler with Anti-Jam Mechanism is perfect for most office applications. It eliminates the annoying hiccups that many staplers have while doing its basic job very efficiently.

Stapling documents almost without delay is easy since this stapler is electronic. It is fantastic for those who need to staple multiple documents in a row quickly. It fires staples by using an optical sensor. This means as soon as a document trips the sensor, the mechanism will staple the sheet. It can staple up to 20 sheets at a time which makes it efficient for many large groups of papers. Inside of the stapler there is also a floating core to help prevent jams. Overall this stapler should be able to suit your office perfectly. It won’t be necessary to spend time on a stack of documents making sure they are properly secured any longer!

Looking At Great Ways To Get Sunlight And Exercise

Sunlight and exercise are two of the most important things you can give your body, as each of these will go a long way in keeping your body healthy in both the present and the long run, but one problem with trying to get these two things is that most of us are “too busy” to try to squeeze in both; for this reason, it is beneficial to know some things you can do to get sunlight and exercise at the same time!

Swimming is perhaps the best “total body workout” of all, as it works out every part of the body while also being easy on the joints and the spine (not to mention the fact that it can also be extremely enjoyable!); of course, most people these days think of swimming at their gym, where they swim indoors, but while this is good for your body, it does not give you that sunlight that is also so important – so if you have access to a pool during the summer, you should also do what you can to get in some swimming outdoors!

Another great way to keep your body in shape is by walking, which is something that a lot of people neglect because of the fact that it is so easy it seems like there is no way it could really be a good workout; realize, however, that walking is a great way to keep your muscles moving and to keep your blood flowing – and it is easy to do even in small bursts (during your lunch hour, for instance), and it is a great way to get sunlight.

And one of the best ways to give your body a great workout in the winter, while also getting some sunlight and having fun, is by skiing; of course, not everyone lives in a place where they can ski regularly, but if you do live near a place where you can ski, try to find some used skis at a good price, and buy a season pass to the mountain so you can ski a few runs every week – and watch as your body tones up, and as that sunlight continues to make you feel better!

Looking for different ways to stay in shape is important, but as you look for different ways, make sure you are also looking for ways that will enable you to get sunlight as well; in this way, you can stay fit and healthy all at the same time!

How To Beat Bad Weather

Even if you are not a student anymore (or are not a teacher), to where you can do whatever you want to do all summer, there is still something ingrained in you that makes you want to “make the most of” summer – enjoying your days off by spending time by the pool, or by barbecuing outside, or even just by passing a relaxing afternoon in the park. But when you are working full-time and therefore only have the weekends off, it can be frustrating (and difficult to know how to make the most of your time) when you are stuck with bad weather on one of these precious days off in the summer.

One thing that people especially find to be enjoyable during days off in the summer is movie marathons; of course, this is different from just flipping on the television and clicking through the channels, as you will be picking several movies by one actor, or a series of movies, and settling in to watch them all throughout the day.

Another thing that can be a lot of fun during a day of bad weather (especially if this “bad weather” is rain – as this is fun to do while sitting in a comfy chair by the window on a rainy day) is going from cover to cover in a great book that you have never read before.

And if you are going to be passing this day of bad weather with friends or family, a great way to spend the time is by playing games; regardless of whether the games you choose to play are board games, card games, or less conventional games such as “sardines” or “hide and seek,” you are sure to make a memorable day out of the lousy weather!

Days of bad weather can either be frustrating or a lot of fun during the summer – and if you take the right approach to such days, you can make them the latter, instead of the former!

How To Get Started Bird Watching

If you have been searching for new things you can possibly engage in toward an effort to enjoy the outdoors, one thing you might want to consider is bird watching; after all – although it might seem like a “boring” or “pointless” activity to some – bird watching gives you the perfect excuse to get outdoors and into nature, while also giving you something to do while you are out there! But as simple as the act of bird watching is, you cannot simply go out into the forest and just start looking for birds; before you can get started, there are a few specific things you will need, and a few specific things you will need to know!

The most important thing in the arsenal of any bird watcher is their binoculars; if you live in or near a city and will be going into some smaller forests and nature preserves, you will be able to get away with a less-than-spectacular set of binoculars, but if you live in an area with a lot of wildlife, you will want to make sure you get a powerful set of binoculars so you will be sure to not miss a thing.

In order to both know what you have seen and keep track of what you have seen, you will need a bird watching journal; a good bird watching journal – such as the National Geographic Birders Journal – will tell you what birds you are seeing, and will also allow you to mark the birds you have seen.

And one of the biggest failures of new bird watchers is that they do not think about the clothes they have ready for their jaunts through the forests; you will want to make sure you have sturdy, lightweight pants for the summer, and all throughout the year you will want to make sure you have good, comfortable walking or hiking shoes.

Once you have made sure you have all these items, you will be ready to start experimenting with bird watching, and you will have everything you need to enjoy it to the fullest!
